Background of the Study
Charismatic leadership is often considered a powerful factor in shaping voter behavior, especially in local political contexts where personal connections and trust are critical. Leaders with charisma tend to inspire loyalty by articulating compelling visions, demonstrating confidence, and building emotional connections with their followers (Odu & Emmanuel, 2023). In Langtang South Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State, charismatic leadership has emerged as a key determinant of voter loyalty, particularly during local election campaigns. The ability of candidates to mobilize support, engage effectively with constituents, and project authenticity significantly influences election outcomes (Yakubu, 2024). This study examines the dynamics of charismatic leadership in Langtang South LGA, focusing on how it impacts voter loyalty during election campaigns.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite its significance, the role of charismatic leadership in shaping voter loyalty is often overlooked in discussions about electoral processes in Nigeria. In Langtang South LGA, voter behavior is frequently influenced by candidates' personal appeal rather than their policy platforms or party affiliations. While this trend underscores the power of charisma, it raises concerns about the long-term implications for democratic governance and accountability (Ibrahim & Musa, 2023).
